Stonehaven 2

Banks o’ Dee 1

Stonehaven went into last Saturday’s Superleague game at home to Banks o’ Dee looking to build on the win over Longside.

It was the Hive who started the stronger of the two sides. Glass got to the ball just before the Dee ‘keeper but he could only loft his shot wide.

Robertson made a great sliding tackle just after the quarter hour mark to block a dangerous looking ball across the box. Stonehaven took the lead five minutes later when a corner found McCall at the back post and he forced the ball into the back of the net.

It could have easily been 2-0 just after the restart when Martin Shand picked the ball up and ran with it before laying it into the path of Cruickshank who fired over.

Glass should have made it 2-0 on the half hour. He picked the ball up after the Banks o’ Dee right back hesitated but laid the ball to Cruickshank instead of shooting himself and Cruickshank had his shot blocked.

Five minutes later a good ball through found Nicol whose shot was kept out by a great fingertip save from Smith. The equaliser wasn’t long in coming however and it was Gray who had the simple task of converting after the ball was played in from the Hive left.

It could have been the visitors who went in at half time in the lead, however the post denied Gray on 42 minutes and Smith saved when the same player was afforded too much space to get a header in. The hosts started the second half well and five minutes in regained the lead. A corner from the left by Glass found the head of Cruickshank and he nodded home.

Five minutes later Stonehaven could have increased their lead when Glass played the ball to Horne at the back post but he shot over.

Horne was next to go close. The ball was played over the top and his deft touch put it just wide.

Stonehaven were denied in the 74th minute when Dee ‘keeper Stark make a great save before the ball was eventually cleared.

Gray came close just a minute later but Smith made a great block to keep the Hive in front.
