Stonehaven kicked off last Tuesday night’s Superleague fixture at home to Culter. The away team started the brighter and created the first real chance but fortunately Sievwright could only head over the bar from good position. It was the Hive who took the lead with 12 minutes on the clock and it was former Culter forward Martin Shand whose deflected shot looped over McIntosh in the Culter goal giving him no chance after the visitors failed to clear their lines.
Darren McAllister limped off and was replaced by Andy Campbell and in the 34th minute Culter grabbed an equaliser. After some good work down the right, McWilliam’s cross found Donald who had an easy task of passing the ball into the net. The hosts had a few chances in the final stages of the first half and Martin Shand could well have nudged his team back in front just on the half-time whistle but his header went over the bar.
The Hive were back in front in 46 minutes, McIntosh had the save of the match to deny Alexander but the ball broke to Horne who rifled the ball high into the net despite the best efforts of McArthur to keep it out.
Two minutes later it was 3-1. Horne’s free kick made its way though a ruck of players and found Alexander who slid the ball home. It was one way traffic at this point and on 63 minutes Sincliar drove the ball into the net via the post from 18 yards.
Cowell’s deep cross on 69 minutes produced a headed goal from Greg Donald, but it wasn’t long before the Hive regained their three goal advantage. Shand went down in the box and Horne stepped up to thump the ball into the net from 12 yards to finish the scoring at 5-2 in the 73rd minute.
