Dyce 1 Stonehaven 1
Stonehaven kicked off their opening PMAC Group Superleague fixture at Ian Mair Park looking to start the season with three points against a Dyce side who have been somewhat of a bogey team since they were promoted to the top flight back in 2006.
Hive started the game the more eager of the two sides and deservedly took lead after just 8 minutes. Buchanan saw his cross blocked but the ball came back to him and he rolled it to Steel who curled a low right foot effort into the corner of the net from just outside the area.
Dyce eventually found the equaliser in 34 minutes. The ball was played in from the right and wasn’t dealt with, allowing Steve Bartlett to slot in after Hive ‘keeper Smith went to his near post to close down.
Stonehaven made an enforced change at the break when the injured Lewis Shand was replaced by Mike Cormack. It wasn’t long before Cormack was involved when he played a crossfield ball to Low who could only send his header wide of target.
Dyce were down to ten men in 67 minutes when former Hive midfielder Tommy Robertson was sent off for his second bookable offence. Horne was next to threaten for The Hive with 20 minutes remaining when he picked up the ball down the Dyce right however his cross hit the bar on it’s way across goal and out of play.
Dyce were looking more likely to score despite their one man disadvantage. Bartlett saw his shot blocked for corner and minutes later Murray’s long throw wasn’t dealt with and Bryant’s header was headed off the line by Low.
Hive then broke and Steel played the ball to the back post where Horne should have scored. With 5 minutes remaining Shand had a great shot palmed over the bar.
