Stonehaven entertained Hall Russell United at Glenury on Saturday looking to build on last week’s 1-1 draw at home to Maud.
It was the hosts who were first to threaten on 2 minutes when Horne sent a snapshot over the bar.
Alexander was next to threaten for Stonehaven when he ran through on goal but saw his shot saved by Simpson in the Hall Russell goal.
With 20 minutes on the clock a ball down the right found Forsyth who crossed and found Alexander on the edge of the area but his shot flew wide of the far post.
Forsyth was involved again on 24 minutes when he took the ball on a run before laying into the path of Alexander who shot wide.
Despite the pressure from the hosts, Hall Russell showed that they weren’t merely there to make up the numbers and on 27 minutes a corner played to edge of the Stonehaven penalty area resulted in a shot which was well kept out by Johnstone. Less than a minute later Johnstone saved the day again after he beat away a Shaw effort and Stonehaven went straight back up the park and the visitors defence just managed to clear the danger.
Watt was next to try his luck but his header came back off the post. Stonehaven started the second half looking to build on the chances created in the first half and on 49 minutes Horne saw his shot from the edge of the Hall Russell area curl just wide.
With an hour gone Watt sent in a teasing inswinging free kick which just missed McIntosh at the back post.
Stonehaven came close on 72 minutes when Watt whipped a corner in but the Hall Russell defence just about managed to get the ball clear.
Two minutes later good play by Forsyth saw him play the ball to Stewart on the edge of the area who dragged his shot just wide.
In the closing minutes Forsyth saw his shot saved after good run and cut inside by Horne. It was Johnstone in the Stonehaven goal who had the last meaningful action of the game when he saved the day again after denying Shaw who was left unmarked. STONEHAVEN: Johnstone, McLelland, McCall, Pyper, Jack McIntosh, Croll, Alexander (Stewart), Winton, Horne, Forsyth, Watt (Taylor). Subs: Ollie McIntosh, Murray, Duncan.
