Stonehaven faced Banchory St Ternan in the Superleague at Glenury on Saturday looking for a win against a team which did the double over them last season.
A minute later Darren Pyper was lucky to only be booked for Banchory St Ternan after a nasty looking tackle on Sinclair.
The Hive took the lead on 10 minutes when a through ball found CRUICKSHANK who ran past three defenders before firing a left foot effort into the top corner. The play was consigned to the middle of the park until the 24th minute when Stonehaven doubled their lead. A great through ball from McCall found GLASS whose deft lob beat the keeper to make it 2-0.
From the restart the visitors went on the attack and forced a good save from Smith in the Stonehaven goal.
There was a goal disallowed when Martin Shand prodded home but the referee blew for a foul on the ‘keeper.
Half time - STONEHAVEN 2-0 Banchory St Ternan
Banchory started the second the better and just three minutes in a Carrol shot forced Smith into a save following slack play from the hosts. Martin Shand was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet on 55 minutes when he headed a Glass corner off the crossbar. Banchory pulled a goal back on the hour when former Hive defender Galashan was left unmarked and his header found the back of the net. The two goal cushion was restored just minutes later however as HORNE sent a right foot effort past Sim after Shand did well to press Cruickshank in the Banchory defence into an error. Pyper should have got himself on the scoresheet with five minutes remaining but could only send his header wide following a good ball in from Glass. Banchory went almost straight up the park and came closed to an equaliser but Garrett prodded wide and The Hive took the three points.
