Ice skates would have been more appropriate footwear to combat the frozen tees and icy footpaths at Stonehaven Golf Club on Saturday. Again the winter greens were in operation and the gully holes were out of action. Best score in the singles competition came from Chris Taylor and John Findlay who both had 36 points. They lead by 2 points from Ian Smith with vice captain Mike Rendall on 33 points.

Only twelve couples completed their rounds in the doubles competition. Alister Barnett and Tom Simpson lead the way in the handicap competition with an excellent nett score of 57. They won by one stroke from John Neal and Douglas Henderson. In the scratch section Neil Irvine and Harry Roulston had a 65 to win by 5 strokes from Stewart Allsop and Brian Lawson.

While playing in a ladies competition Pam Droy holed her tee shot at the 2nd hole using her driver.

The draw was made for the Grand Christmas Raffle on Saturday and the winner of the £1,000 first prize was Doug Stewart. Alan Mailer won the weekend for two at St Andrews, Bill Adams won £350, the Gamola golf voucher went to Irene Butchert, Mrs E Smith won the xmas hamper and Callum Mitchell won the case of wine. The council thanked everyone for taking part.

Two dates for January: on January 8 former Open Champion Paul Lawrie will be coming along to present the trophies at the junior prizegiving and on January 19 there will be an EGM and AGM in the clubhouse starting at 7pm.
