Johnshaven lose opener v Rothie

The opening game of the new season saw Johnshaven take on last season’s Division 2 East champions Rothie Rovers who were promoted along with Johnshaven into Division 1 East.

In the 3rd minute Scott crossed for Smith to head over the bar, then in the 9th minute Scott Beedie took the ball into the box and the Rothie keeper blocked his shot.

Four minutes later, MacLaren crossed and Scott sidefooted over the bar from close range.

Rothie took the lead in 15 minutes. The Johnshaven keeper and a forward went for a high ball which the keeper failed to hold and a shot on the turn found the net.

In the 18th minute Hector crossed to Steven Smith whose low shot clipped the inside of the post on its way in for an equaliser.

two minutes from the break the ball fell to Ross Blease and his 25 yard shot was held by the keeper.

In the 67th minute Smith found Dundas who chipped the ball up to Scott Beedie and his header went just over the bar.

Rothie had a let-off in 73 minutes. A Dundas shot was saved by the Rothie keeper’s legs. The ball rebounded high and Dundas got in a downward angled header across the goalmouth but the ball hit the post and was scrambled clear.

In the 85th minute a first-time shot from Stuart Beedie flew just over the bar.

Rothie stole the points with a goal in 86 minutes, when the ball was struck low past the Johnshaven keeper.
