Johnshaven raise their game to end as worthy winners

NEWTONHILL 1

JOHNSHAVEN 3

Johnshaven secured an extremely important three points over fellow promotion hopefuls Newtonhill after putting in one of their performances of the season.

Johnshaven boasted an extremely strong line up with manager Williams having an almost full squad to select from for the first time in a few months, and the players he picked justified their places as they fully deserved this victory.

They took the lead after just two minutes. Slavin went on a mazy run down the left, and played a 1-2 with A. Tringham, before crossing the ball to Trialist 9, to score from just two yards out and marking his return to the club with an early goal.

Just a minute later a fantastic through-ball from J. Dalgarno found Scott Beedie but his shot was hit straight at the keeper.

The away team were rampant in the early stages and after a great move down the right involving J. Dalgarno and S. Blease, the ball was hit into the box for Beedie to connect with but his shot was well saved.

In the 10th minute, R. Blease found himself through on goal but his shot was hit directly at the keeper frustrating the Johnshaven sidelines who feared it could be ‘one of those days’.

In the 13th minute Smith took on no fewer than four players and found himself in the box with all the space in the world, but the pacey winger was guilty of perhaps having too much time and he ended up pulling his shot wide when it looked easier to score.

In the 19th minute, Beedie crossed to R. Blease who fluffed his shot but the ball broke to Smith whose first effort was saved brilliantly and then the same player picked up the rebound but his shot came back off the post.

In the 29th minute, totally against the run of play, Newtonhill grabbed an equaliser. A long throw in was knocked down by the tall home striker, and his strike partner blasted the ball low and fast to give Phillip in goal no chance. Score 1-1.

Johnshaven got their lead back straight away when Smith crossed for Ross Blease to smash the ball home from 10 yards giving the keeper no chance.

Johner nearly extended their lead when a Trialist 9 effort from 25 yards out went narrowly over.

In the 53rd minute, S. Blease knocked the ball on to Beedie but as the striker bravely went for the ball despite the keeper coming out aggressively for it, the striker could only knock just wide of the post. In the 60th minute a long range effort from Trialist 9 came crashing off the post.

Eight minutes later, R. Blease attempted a spectacular overhead kick on for his effort to come off the post. The rebound fell to his brother S. Blease but he could only knock the ball just wide of the post.

In the 71st minute, Jordan Rausch replaced an exhausted Scott Beedie.

Newtonhill looked to have grabbed a fortunate equaliser in the 80th minute after a great cross found an attacker but his header came back off the bar, much to the relief of the away team.

Johnshaven realised this game was far from over after this, and when Steven Smith picked up the ball from 30 yards out, he turned and unleashed a ferocious shot that sailed into the top corner to send the away teams touchline into raptures.

In the final moments of the game Comiskey replaced Trialist 9.

The win ensures Johnshaven’s promotion not only remain alive but look promising especially if they can keep their long standing unbeaten league record going which now stands at 10 games.

Final Score 3-1
