Luthermuir got off to a great start against Stonehaven Athletic in the first of two away fixtures against a Stonehaven team in 5 days.
With the following Wednesday night game against AC Mill Inn, Luthermuir knew that getting 6 points from the two games was a must if they were to keep momentum going and challenge for the league at the end of their long line of remaining fixtures.
Luther scored within 5 minutes when a hesitant defender pass back to the keeper was pounced on by Anderson and slotted past the keeper into the bottom corner. Luthermuir continued to have most of the possession in the attacking half and got their second after 2 minutes.
A corner from the right was missed at the front post by the defender and Ellis had a tap in at the centre of the goal from two yards. The Muir were managing to limit the Athletic chances on goal with Wands very rarely tested.
They made it three before the break when Greig took the ball in his stride and raced goal wards only to be taken down at the edge just inside the corner of the box. Anderson stepped up to send the keeper the wrong way.
Luthermuir were able to take the foot off the gas a bit in the second half with the cushion of three goals from the first half and as such the second half was one of few opportunities. Again they defended well from midfield back and Stonehaven had very few chances at all. However, whenever Wands was required he was alert to the situation.
On the one occasion the visiting defence was unable to clear their lines up the park they still prevented Stonehaven from getting a shot on target.
Luthermuir did have a chance in the second half when Cruikshank raced clear and shot wide under pressure from the defender.
Luthermuir left satisfied with the win to keep the good run of results going.
