Luthermuir FC are to honour their long serving striker and record goalscorer Murdoch Anderson with a testimonial match and dinner in June.

Murdoch (35) made his Luthermuir debut aged 16 at the tail end of the 1992-93 season.

In the 19 seasons since, including this one, goal machine Murdoch has notched well over 500 goals for the club in the Aberdeenshire Amateur League.

His 500th goal came on August 17 last year, at home to Johnshaven Athletic.

The clebrations in honour of Murdoch will take place on Saturday, June 23.

Cove Rangers captain Eric Watson, himself a former Luthermuir player, will bring a select side to Luthermuir to play the current Luthermuir team, who could by that time be celebrating promotion to the Premier Division or even be champions of Division One East.

That evening, a dinner dance will be held in Luthermuir hall, both to celebrate Murdoch’s career and also to mark the 35th birthday of the club.

Luthermuir FC was formed in 1977 to play in what was then the Montrose Winter League.

After a number of seasons in Welfare football, Luthermuir joined the Forfar and District Amateur League, then joined the Aberdeenshire Amateurs for the 1990-91 season.

MC at the dinner will be Jack Souttar and speakers will be David Birse, former chairman of Brechin City, Dave Stewart, Luthermuir secretary and former manager and Dave Strath, secretary of Echt FC, who joined the Aberdeenshire Amateur League with Luthermuir and were promoted through the ranks with them for a number of successive seasons.

Any former Luthermuir players interested in attending the dinner should get in touch with the club.

Murdoch’s best goal tally was 58 in season 2003-04 as Luthermuir finished champions of Division One North.

His next best was 53 in season 1997-98 as Luthermuir won promotion out of Division Two and took their place in Aberdeenshire’s top division for the first time.
