Matthew Duguid, Stonehaven, continued the winning ways of other Stonehaven players, Jacob Reynolds and Mark and Sean Leith, when he recently lifted the Scottish Schools Badminton Union U13 age group singles title.
Matthew has proved throughout the season that he is a force to be reckoned with and on this occasion recorded a very well deserved win. Other local players to compete in the event were Scott Waddell, Sam Muir, David Blacklaw, all Stonehaven and Steaphan Connell, Milltimber. Matthew, Sam and Scott all recorded comfortable victories in their first matches, securing them a place in the top half of their respective divisions.
David and Steaphan were less fortunate in division 2 losing their first matches but both close fought ties. In his remaining 3 matches David played well losing out in narrowly in only one of them. Sam had 3 very tough games and showed some great skill and determination though this was not enough to secure him a victory. Scott Waddell, certainly made his mark, winning all 3 matches without losing a set. Steaphan also had some tough matches in division 1, losing them all in 3 sets. This set up a playoff challenge match between Scott and Steaphan to determine 8th and 9th place, which Scott won.
Matthew had started the day as top seed which is often a difficult place to be but he proved this was perfectly justified as he continued in his winning ways, not dropping a single set.
