Mearns remain unbeaten after win v Echt

MEARNS United continued their unbeaten start to their season with a 5-3 win over Echt on Saturday.

Mearns took the lead in five minutes. Ryan Stewart played a ball over the top and Rob Armstrong slotted past the diving keeper.

In 10 minutes, Ross Wilson flicked on to Ryan Stewart who cut the ball back for Armstrong to tap in and make it 2-0.

In 31 minutes a nothing challenge by Neal Bruce was deemed a penalty and Echt made it 2-1 from the spot.

Right on half-time, Gary Legg ran from the halfway line past four players and sent a fine shot into the corner of the net for 3-1.

In 59 minutes, Echt beat the Mearns offside trap and a tap-in got them back to just 3-2 down.

Eleven minutes from time, Andrew Scott put the Echt rearguard under pressure at a corner and the ball was turned into his own net by an Echt player.

Mearns made sure of the points in 85 minutes. A through ball by Andrew Scott split the defence and Ryan Stewart cut inside his marker and drove the ball into the net.

Echt had the lst word right on time. The Mearns defence was caught sleeping from a fine through ball and Echt tapped in at the far post.
