The Mackie Micros travelled to Forfar on Sunday to take part in a Micros rugby tournament involving teams from Strathmore, Blairgowrie, Carnoustie, Dundee, Brechin and Panmure rugby clubs. The teams were split into two groups of five, and although this was the first tournament for some of the Mackie youngsters they took to the field with great confidence.
In their first game Mackie started slowly, but gave themselves a shake and ran out convincing winners against Panmure. They wobbled a little again in their second game which resulted in a draw with Dundee Eagles, but from there on they never looked back and notched up good wins against Carnoustie and Strathy Sharks Yellow team.
This record resulted in a place in the final for the Mackie team against the very strong hosts, the Strathy Sharks Red team.
The final was a tense affair and at final whistle the score was 3-3. In extra-time Mackie put on an outstanding performance. Tries were again traded between the teams and to the delight of the Mackie players and supporters Mackie scored a try in the last minute to seal the win.
