Once again grey skies and a steady rain greeted hardy golfers on Saturday morning but the smiles from our bar staff brought the ray of sunshine that encouraged us to head out for 18 holes.

As that wise sage Kevin ‘Bongo’ Boyne was heard to say “FITS THE PINT IN HAEN WAATIR PROOFS IF YER NAE GAAN TAE WEAR EM FAN YE NEEDEM.”

For our southern cousins this roughly translates as ... One should take cognisance of the purchase of wet weather equipment when considering the efficacy of golfing in adverse conditions.

Testament to head green keeper Graeme and his team the greens held up all day and quite a few brave souls braved the element to return very admirable scores considering the conditions overhead and underfoot. One of those was even heard to claim he played his best field ever!

Saturday evening saw the annual prize giving with our Captain leading proceedings and entertainment was provided by the thoroughly excellent Frank Robb. Reports were that Frank, food and festivities were all first class ... A few tinctures were taken ... And a good time was had by all.

Next weekend (13th and 14th November), high teas and meals will be served in the clubhouse & patron membership is only £10.

Perhaps a few ‘sair heeds’ were amongst those venturing out for Sunday’s session of the Winter League but on a bright and windy morning the cobwebs were soon blown away. Unfortunately so were the later golfers as torrential rain joined the high winds to scupper chances of good scores. Here’s hoping for better weather next weekend - remember if you want to try out golf we are offering bargain winter memberships for £60 (under 25’s) and £100 (over 25’s) membership valid till end of February & if you subsequently join next year, your winter fees will be deducted!
