Arduthie Primary School were runners up in the Scottish Schools Championship for the Gibb Memorial Quaich on Sunday February 22 in North Lanarkshire.
The squad of five boys and four girls did very well. The tournament involved 85 players from nine schools who had qualified from regional events across Scotland. Arduthie were there representing the North East of Scotland, having won the regional Quaich in January this year. On Sunday there were a total of 180 games played and 5907 points scored.
The Arduthie team won all but two of their matches against opponents from Ayrshire, East Renfrewshire, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Mid/East Lothian and Moray. Arduthie were beaten by Bruntsfield Primary from Edinburgh who won the competition for the third year in a row. Arduthie were second having won more games than third placed Dunbar.
Arduthie Primary School badminton coach Rachel Shanks said “The Arduthie team were a great credit to the school, Stonehaven and the North-east, all playing their very best on the court, supporting their team mates and abiding by badminton rules and etiquette over the course of a long active day.”
