Athletes in Banchory Stonehaven Athletics club have a lot to look forward to in the coming month.
With The Anniversary Games in London, the Commonwealth Games a year away in Glasgow, the Scottish athletics National Age Group Championships in Aberdeen just 2 weeks away - athletics is never far from the news at the moment.
Banchory Stonehaven athletes are up there with the best with no less than three athletes from the Club selected to compete for Scotland this week.
18 year old Kathryn Christie runs in the U20 100m at the Welsh International in Cardiff; 14 year old Alisha Rees from Torphins and 15 year old Kelsey Stewart from Stonehaven have been selected for the U16 and U18 teams competing in the Celtic Games in Colwyn Bay, North Wales on August 3.
Kelsey is in fine form and won 2 silver medals at the Schools International in Dublin last weekend, setting a fantastic new Club Record of 38.66s in the 300metres.
In addition, Club member Rhona Auckland was selected to run the 10,000m at the U23 European Championships in Finland earlier in the month, gaining great experience and coming in 9th position. Closer to home, 15 year old Matthew Duguid won the Silver medal in the U16 pentathlon at Grangemouth earlier in the month.
These are great results for these young athletes and with the National championships being held in Aberdeen, they will certainly be looking to build on their recent successes.
The Championships take place at the Aberdeen Sports Village over the weekend August 17/18 best of luck to all Club athletes competing.
