Wrestling action returned to Newtonhill last week as the North-east’s grappling stars engaged in body-slamming combat.

Enthusiastic fans were on-hand to cheer on their favourites as WrestleZone bouts were held at the Bettridge Centre.

The main event was a titanic struggle which saw Undisputed Champion Crusher Craib triumph in a special two-on-one match against Team SMASH.

New tag team champions the Thunder Buddies made a successful first title defence against Chris Archer and the Super Executioner, while the popular Shawn Johnson became the latest grappler to make ‘Adorable’ Alan Sterling say “I-Quit” in their bout.

There were also wins for Damien and Johnny Lions at the event, which attracted an enthusiastic crowd at the centre.

WrestleZone spokesman Martyn Clunes said: “We are delighted with the support given to the grapplers – it certainly was a great atmosphere within the Bettridge Centre on Friday night.

“Crusher Craib’s win was a particular highlight as he beat both James Midas and Aspen Faith, and continues to prove to be a huge hit as champion.

“With wrestling returning to the Beach Ballroom in May 2014, all the grapplers are looking to be a part of the showpiece event – and the fans in Newtonhill certainly looked like they had a good time.”
