Mackie FPRFC u10’s were fortunate to be invited to the Inaugural Lorreto School under 10’s tournament but the team still delivered.

Taking the place of Madrascals who had to pull out the team showed what the North East can do in terms of powerful and skilful rugby coming 3rd overall.

The team were placed in a group with Hawick & Prestonpans, winning the first fixture with Hawick and losing to a heavily weighted P6 equivalent Prestonpans.

The boys played their socks off and best of all, a few of the things that we’re drumming into them on the training field came through beautifully. Despite the 50% record Mackie still came on top after the group stages due to the combination of fair play, respect and sportsmanship points that were used in the scoring system meanign they were in the Cup Semi final.

There they met Heriotts School in a battle where not one kid didn’t leave the field without giving their all. Mackie were just outscored 4-3, though the proud coaches and parents were beaming with pride.

Portobello were the oppenents in the Cup 3rd place play off and did it in style again winning 4-2. Another superb performance out running, rucking, passing and support play.

The club has said: “Well done P5 and a special mention for Hamish and James from the P6 squad. You did yourselves proud and are great teamplayers.”
