Lathallan School, Johnshaven’s U13 (S1/J7) rugby team, recently returned from their bi-annual tour to the North and South of Ireland.
Thirteen boys, plus a parent and two teachers, travelled over to Belfast to enjoy the hospitality of Rockport School, Holywood.
Rockport no longer play rugby but they enjoyed the now traditional football match under lights.
Friday saw a late morning kick off against the regular tour partners, Headfort School, Kells, Co Meath, Ireland. After conceding two early tries, Lathallan fought back to end strongly in an exciting four tries to three defeat.
Unfortunately, the Irish have retained the Celtic Quaich in the 21st playing of the fixture. The boys were hosted by their Irish counterparts and the adults likewise and all enjoyed some great hospitality.
On Saturday morning, the team played Wesley College, a large senior school on the southern edge of the city.
The boys again conceded two early tries but their rally in the face of a much bigger team and drawing from many, many more boys was absolutely fantastic and a great demonstration of determination and team play as well as rugby skill.
The final score was 57-34 to Lathallan.
The boys returned to Lathallan on Sunday a tired but happy group, having enjoyed a wonderful few days on and off the pitch.
