Lathallan School pupil Liam Dreelan (12) captained the Scottish Prep Schools’ XV in their annual match with the Edinburgh Barbarians played this year at Merchiston Castle School in Edinburgh.

The Scottish Prep Schools XV is taken from the best of the WOSPS - previously captained by Liam, from Banchory - and Dandylions teams drawn from nine schools from all of Scotland from Elgin to Melrose and including Edinburgh.

The Edinburgh Barbarians is drawn from the big independent day schools in Edinburgh including Watsons, Heriots and Edinburgh Academy.

Liam, who is in S1 at the Johnshaven school, led his team to a decisive 26-5 win over Edinburgh after weathering a close opening 20 minutes in which there was little in it.

Spirit and cohesive team play took the SPS XV to a clear and well deserved win in the final 20 minutes.

Man of the Match went to Andrew Stirrat of Ardvreck and Liam was presented with The Merchiston Quaich as the winning captain.

Very well done to Liam and the Scottish Prep Schools XV!
