Mackie Minis headed for Aberdeen Grammar last weekend for a session with near neighbors and hosts Grammar and other visitors Ellon RFC.
The Mackie P4s split themselves into Reds and Blacks for the day’s events and after a joint warm-up the Blacks took the field against Grammar and the Reds against Ellon.
Both matches were close fought affairs with good open rugby from both sides despite the 1st match nerves that are always a feature of these away fixtures for the boys.
Next up and Grammar and Ellon swapped Mackie teams for the 2nd set of matches. Mackie were now “off and running” and nerves no longer seemed to be playing any part in proceedings in games that upped in intensity and also in technique and effort.
Again the competition was very close at times, and always fierce, but at the final whistle the Mackie teams seemed to have the edge overall.
The Reds and Blacks game that followed however was to be the best match of the day.
With neither squad prepared to give ground or be left wanting for effort, the Mackie boys served up a fantastic display of P4 rugby with the rucking and support play being worked on hard in training being brought to bear on the pitch with great effect and reaping fantastic results.
This encounter left the coaches beaming and the watching parents looking very proud....it was a great game!
Mackie Minis meet at the playing fields on a Saturday morning between 9:30 - 11am, ask for Andy or Paul and the P4 squad, alternatively you can find mini rugby details and contacts on the club website www.mafprfc.org
