With great travelling numbers again from the Mammoths, they had a good balance of players and even loaned Ellon subs when needed!

The first 10 minutes of the game were closely contested with the play staying close to the half way line throughout.

The forwards were closely matched and were certainly putting each side to the test. Mammoths, however, did seem to have an advantage through the backs and with a strong line up we were able to put width and pace on the ball which lead to their first try being scored by Jon Dale. Ellon soon bounced back and managed to even the score with a soft try.

Mammoths kept the pressure and it wasn’t long before Colin Goldsworthy went over the line to score Mammoths’ second try.

The Bears fought back hard and scored two tries in short time from each other, putting them ahead of the Mammoths.

A few stern words from Stuart Campbell saw the Mammoths regain their shape, with their thirdtry coming from Ciaran Dreelan who managed to beat a couple of tacklers and make a break for the line.

Despite being tackled at the try line, he succeeded in getting the ball down for the score.

At this stage Mammoths felt they could take a winning score by keeping the pressure on and getting the basics right which came from Jake Meston, scoring after continued pressure and phases.

A lot was to be gained from the game and Mammoths are certainly moving in the right direction.

Captain Neil Leitch praised his team afterwards and emphasized the work done on the pitch by each player, reiterating the importance of numbers at training with Drew Buchanan taking on the coaching role.

Neil also awarded Man of the Match to Ciaran Dreelan.Next fixture is a home game against Brechin on Saturday, March 28.
