Organisers of the Stonehaven Half Marathon have said the race is in ‘good shape’ as they look towards next year and the 30th anniversary of the race.

John Ritchie, chairperson of this year’s organising committee, said : “It was extra hard for the runners with the heat contributing to a course which is tough enough under cooler conditions.

‘‘All of the competitors had to dig deep and I was really impressed with their gutsy performances.’’

“Support from individual volunteers and organisations that come together to make this event run smoothly has, once again, been fantastic.

“Many people give up time to bake, marshal and help our event in so many different ways to maintain the friendly and highly regarded status that it holds in the Scottish running calendar.

‘‘We are also grateful for the support of many local businesses that provide facilities, equipment and sponsored our event on
the day.

“The 337 starters this year is another record for the modern Stonehaven Half Marathon and all of the entrants have helped raise funds for CLAN.

“This is a charity with which we are proud to have a long association and which does so much for cancer support in our area.

‘‘As we move into next year the half marathon is in good shape to celebrate its 30th anniversary in July 2015.”
