On Sunday January 26 the Stonehaven Indoor Bowling Club hosted the sixth annual Junior Triples Competition sponsored by the Stonehaven and District Lions Club.
Seven clubs entered a total of eleven teams who competed in two groups, with the semi-finals being played between the winners of one group and the runners-up of the other group.
The clubs entering teams were Stonehaven, Aberdeen, Arbroath, Buchan, Dundee, Forfar and Grampian.
Grampian B were top of Group One, with Forfar A as runners-up. Grampian C were top of Group Two, with Grampian A as runners up. In the semi-finals Grampian A beat Grampian B and Forfar A beat Grampian C to prevent an all-Grampian final.
The Grampian A team, consisting of Ryan MacKinnon, Kieran Craigen and skip James McDougall, and the Forfar A team, consisting of Ethan Alexander, Shane Cunningham and skip Angus Redford, were even on four shots each after the normal six ends.
The game therefore had to go into a sudden-death final end. This was extremely close and required the Umpire, Alan Beattie, to measure to determine the winner. After a tense moment or two Forfar A were declared the winners.
The teams were presented with their trophies by Tony Bilsdon from the Stonehaven and District Lions Club.
The Stonehaven Junior Bowlers meet at the Indoor Bowls Club on a Thursday evening at 4.15pm, where potential members are always welcome. Come along to the club or call Sylvia Seivwright on 01224 874985.
