Stonehaven had mixed fortunes in the Bowls Scotland District Finals last Thursday at Kittybrewster BC.
In the afternoon, the Seniors rink of Joe Aitken/Bob Harrison/ Steve Gellatly and Jim Roddie just made it by the slender margin of one shot against a home Kittybrewster four.
The Stoney seniors started well going into an 8-2 lead after some good play and a bit of fortune from Jim Roddie and held that lead until the last end when they lost 5 shots but were worthy winners and now go to Ayr for the National finals in August.
However the Stoney singles and pairs didn’t fair so well and went down against Woodend BC and Northern BC respectively after excellent hard fought matches.
The full results of the district finals were:-
Tarland (A Anderson) 10, Woodend (N Anderson) 21.
Stonehaven (G Penny) 15, Woodend (M Smith) 21.
Northern (J Shea, N McIntosh) 19, Stonehaven (A McIntosh, J Roddie) 13.
Seafield (T Johnston) 3, Whitehall (D Nicholson) 22.
Northern (R Stewart) 20, Abergeldie (Q Chalmers) 6.
Aberdeen (J Christie) 12, Seafield (R Findlay) 21.
Stonehaven (J Roddie) 14, Kittybrewster (J Robertson) 13.
In one of the closest finishes for many years the Regional County League was decided on Saturday with Aberdeen and Kincardineshire eventually coming out on top after a great 19 shot win against old rivals Bon Accord at Rothienorman BC.
A&K now go into the last eight along with second placed Perthshire to face East Lothian at Carnoustie on 5th July.
The Stonehaven Seniors Top Nine team had a good win against Portlethen BC. The fours skipped by Dod Buchan, the triples led by Mike Nevill, and Abe Binnie and John Lawson in the pairs all came out on top to score a six points to nil win. They now look forward to a quarter final match at Balgownie BC on 31st July.
In the Seniors weekly match last Tuesday Stonehaven proved to be too strong for Northern BC when all four rinks defeated their hosts.
