This week sees the 55th year of the Palmer Trophy Open Pairs competition at the Recreation Grounds and a good entry from around the Aberdeenshire area means the greens were full on Monday night for the opening games with the final due tomorrow (Friday).

or many years the ‘Palmer’ was the favourite competition for the Glasgow Fair holidaymakers and locals alike in the North-east but as the continental holidays became popular in the nineties so the entry for the competition deteriorated.

There has been a conscious effort this year to attract more entries and, together with terrific sponsorship from Titan Tools, there has been a vastly improved interest although the club will hope to carry this forward for further improvement next year.

The Open Day last Sunday was a great success despite the inclement weather at the offset. All the stalls and BBQ proved popular with a good sized crowd.

The seven-ender was won by Graeme Penny with Eddie Taylor a close runner up.

It looks like it’s all over for Stonehaven in the Mearns League with another home and away defeat,

This time it was to Newtonhill BC last Thursday and it looks like their victors will add the league to their Barclay Harvey title. If they manage the ‘double’ they should be congratulated on a fine season for a relatively small club.

The Senior team had another fine win this time away to Newhills BC. Individual scores were (Stonehaven skips first):-

A.Binnie……………..10 C. Smith……………………15

R.Smith……………….11 A. Davidson……………..11

G.Buchan…………….17 W. Ewing…………………..9

R. Harrison………….23 H.McKay…………………..10

Senior members should note that the triples competition and the Dunnottar Cup team will be posted on the notice board soon.
