Stonehaven reached the semi-finals of the District Top Ten tournament last Friday with a good team performance away against a strong Belhelvie BC team.

espite some late call offs, Stoney’s 10players fought well and after narrow defeats in the triples and pairs matches, which meant a deficit of only five shots, the rink team skipped of Joe Aitken/Bruce Corstorphine/Francis Tattersall and Jim Roddie got a vital two points with a great eight-shot win.

The man of the match, however, was young Mark McIntosh playing his first singles game in the competition and, after trailing by seven shots to nil, scored 19 shots without reply eventually winning by 21 shots to 11 to take Stonehaven through.

In the Mearns League the away team led by Francis Tattersall went to Montrose, returning with a creditable seven-shot victory against Hope Paton BC and in the home match Dod Buchan’s last bowl turned defeat into victory and gave Stonehaven a much needed five points to keep them in touch at the top of the league.
