Last weekend (March 25-27) saw the main draw for the Stonehaven Grand Prix where 16 men and eight women battled it out for the title.
There were entertaining and interesting matches all weekend especially on Saturday with gale-force winds and rain trying to put the players off.
In the men’s event 1 and 2 seeds Bruce McIver and Patrick Young from Stonehaven made it safely through to the final where Patrick was looking to get one over his coach.
Patrick came out the blocks fast hitting lots of big serves and winners to take the first set 6-1. Bruce fought back in the second set playing some brilliant stuff to win it 6-3. It all came down to a match tiebreak where Bruce’s experience proved vital to win the tie break 10-6.
In the ladies event Stonehaven player Aoife Aitken playing on her birthday won a close semi final against Holly Adam 1-6 6-3 10-8 to set up a final against Karen Crawford of Rubislaw. In an exciting match Aoife came out on top with some blistering forehands and backhands to win 6-3 6-3.
