Stonehaven Thistle Cricket Club 1st XI travelled to King College, Aberdeen for their encounter with St Ronald’s 1st XI.
Put in to bat on the tame artificial wicket the openers, Skipper Jonathan Van de Ruit and Dave Long Snr. put on a partnership of 103 in 26 overs when Long played through a straight ball for 15.
David Crozier (9) looked to continue the good work when he joined the Captain but with the score on 120 Jono missed a full toss and was LBW for a deserving 91.
Of the following batsmen only Ross Devlin (10) achieved double figures and Thistle faded to 154 all out inside 43 overs unable to capitalize on their good start.
G. Tiwari was best of the host’s bowling with 5 for 35 off 11.4 overs.
Like their opposition Thistle struggled to find a breakthough which could have come in the first over when Clive Hinchcliffe dropped R. Haider before he went on to score 66 not out.
Other chances followed but Thistle’s pacemen were largely feeding the batsmen who took full advantage. By the time V. Bode (51) was caught off the skipper’s bowling in the 18th over the writing was on the wall at 116 for 1.
St Ronalds achieved the winning total of 155 without further loss.
Rooted to the foot of the Grade 1 table and unable to field a 2nd XI for the 6th time this season Thistle are hosts to third-placed Cults at Mineralwell on Saturday.
The match ball was sponsored by The Station Hotel. Prospective new players are welcome at practice on Thursdays’ at Mineralwell Park or can contact the Club Secretary through the website: www.stonehavencricketclub.org.uk
