Stonehaven’s Patrick Young and Mathilde Sreeves (Straythgryffe) won the Scottish qualifying event of this season’s HSBC Road to Wimbledon International in Stirling.

In the boys’ final at the Gannochy Centre, Young beat Connor Thomson of the David Lloyd club in Renfrew 6-2 6-3. Both players qualify for the national finals to be held at the All England Club in August.

Sreeves of the Strathgryffe club in Houston, but currently studying and training in France, beat Jodie McLelland (Livilands) in the girls’ final – winning a deciding third set match tie-break in convincing style. Sreeves qualifies for the UK National Finals.

Also played at the weekend at venues throughout Scotland, the Road to Wimbledon county finals were taking place with North, South, East and West of Scotland winners hoping to qualify for the county tier finals. The HSBC Road to Wimbledon 2015, for 14 & Under players, began in local schools, parks and tennis clubs all across Scotland and the UK with winners of events qualifying for the county finals.

In partnership with the All India Tennis Association (AITA) and HSBC, the Road to Wimbledon has announced that it will be returning to India with an extended programme in 2015. Qualifying events have taken place in four cities – Kolkata, Chandigarh, Delhi and Mumbai, followed by a Masters event in Delhi in April with finalists being invited to compete in the UK National Finals in August 2015.
