With the winter weather continuing to beat expectations, a welcome sight has been noticed around the golf club with the arrival of some ‘summer golfers’ who are starting to being seen around the place, perhaps a bit confused by the lack of snow so far this winter.

The winter league, now in its 14th week, continues to be popular - particularly on Saturdays - although an ever increasing overflow is taking place on Sunday mornings.

This was the case last weekend with Saturday’s golfers getting slightly better frost lifting conditions than their Sunday counterparts.

Leading scores in the Scratch Doubles were Neil Irvine and Harry Roulston who had a gross score of 61, three shots better than Kenny Duncan and Ian Wood, although their net 54 could be more valuable come the finals weekend in March.

George Deans and Gordon McHardy recorded a nett 58 to keep them in contention for the finals.

In the singles competition, Alex Geddes produced his best score of the winter with 39 stableford points - two better than Iain Taylor.

A Burns evening in the Golf Club is being held on Saturday, January 25.

Tickets are priced at £17 which includes a traditional three-course meal, all are welcome.

With audience participation from pre-arranged members and invited guests this has proved to be an enjoyable evening in the last two years. Contact the club for more information.

The Stonehaven Golf Club annual general meeting will take place at 7.30pm on Thursday, January 23. All members are encouraged to attend to gain a valuable insight into the workings of the club.

Any members wishing to join the council and help out in various tasks in 2014 and beyond are encouraged to append their name to the notice board within the club.

There are four spaces that require to be filled and only three names have been posted so far.
