Stonehaven Tennis Club continued their ascent by hosting their first ever LTA-sanctioned adult event over the last two weekends in March.

Club coach Bruce McIver delighted the vast home crowd by taking the Men’s title with a fine victory

All in all, the 52-player entry was, in the words of tournament referee John Purcell, ‘‘a record number of entries for a North East of Scotland tennis event in the last 15 years at least.’’

With the club’s subsequent intention of making the event an annual tournament, the ‘Stonehaven Grand Prix’ is now the biggest tennis spectacle in Aberdeen, and confirms once and for all that the Stoney club is now well and truly on the map.

Pictures from the Tennis Grand Prix will be in next week’s edition of the Mearns Leader.
