Mhairi Shanks, lead coach for the Junior Section of the Newtonhill Netball Club, has been chosen as Grampian Sport Scotland Young Volunteer of the Year at the recently announced awards.
The Junior Club were recognised as being highly commended in Netball Scotland’s glamorous awards ceremony in Glasgow this month.
Newtonhill Netball Club is a well established group with an excellent pathway for girls from Under 13 age group right the way through to a senior team who compete in the Aberdeen District Netball Association first division.
The key focus of this large club is the development of coaches, officials and volunteers from within a “home grown” environment. The Junior section have recently had great success at regional and National awards. The club goes from Strength to strength under the watchful eye of Caroline Walker.
She “It is really exciting for the Junior Club to be recognised at national level and this reflects the hard work and commitment of the many willing volunteers and players involved.
