the David Wiseman Memorial Trophy was played at the weekend. This competition is traditionally held between four local amateur sides just before the start of the new season.
The pre-season tournament was an ideal warm-up as Aberdeenshire Amateur League games start tomorrow, Saturday.
The four teams taking part were Stonehaven Athletic, AC Mill Inn, Cowie Thistle and Newtonhill.
The draw paired Athletic v Mill Inn and Cowie Thistle v Newtonhill.
The Athletic v Mill Inn game was a six goal thriller with Athletic eventually winning 4-2 with goals from Gellatly, Toner, Bannerman and MacLeod.
The other semi-final between Cowie and Newtonhill finished all square at 3-3, with Newtonhill coming out on top in the penalty shoot-out.
The final on Sunday between Athletic and Newtonhill was another close affair. Newtonhill were two ahead at the interval, however Duncan fired in a great 20 yard strike to bring Athletic back into the game.
Despite constant pressure Athletic could not get the equaliser and Newtonhill sealed victory in the last minute with a third goal, making the final score 3-1.
Newtonhill were worthy winners and all teams are to be congratulated for the sporting manner in which the tournament was played.
