Qualifiers for Innes Medal

On Saturday it was the last chance to qualify for the Innes Medal Final this weekend. Despite the strong winds throughout the day there were a number of excellent scores. In division 1 young junior Grant Robb lead the way with a fine nett 64. This gave him a one stroke win over Glen Melvin and David Cruickshank. Neil Irvine and Steve Guzik were a further stroke behind.

In division 2 Colin Singer’s best nett score of the day of 63 gave him a single stroke win from Tim Prentice with Doug Lorimer third on nett 65. Tom Simpson had a comfortable 3 stroke win in division 3 from Malcolm Ritchie, John Currie and Brian Reid with a nett 64. Neil Irvine had the best scratch score of the day with a 68. The Innes Medal final and Captain’s Cup will be played on Saturday tee times starting from 11am.

In the junior section Mason Jenkins was the winner of the Danny Burgess Trophy with a nett 63 off his handicap of 15. Other scores - Kiefer Brown (7) - 65, Josh Halliday (5) - 68, Grant Robb (5) - 69, Cameron Davidson (10) - 75.

On Monday the third and final round of the Senior Championship was played. In the scratch event Neil Robertson eased to his fifth championship win in a row to collect the Taylor Trophy. His final round of 69 gave him an 8 stroke win over former champion Harry Rouston. The handicap event was a much tighter affair with Ivan Groundwater coming out on top by 1 stroke from Neil Robertson. Ivan picked up the Carnegie Cup as handicap champion.

Last Sunday the Lady Captain’s Prize was played over 10 holes and was won by Carolyn Duncan with 18 points. The first attempt to play this was abandoned due to the fog.

The men’s knockout competitions are nearing their final stages with a number of interesting ties still to be played.

In the J M Low handicap strokeplay knockout competition Alan Officer will play Graeme Ritchie in the final. The Willie Watt handicap matchplay competition is at the semi final stage with Paul Forster playing Harry Roulston and Chris Taylor up against David Cruickshank. The double competition is also at the semi final stage with Joe Meanen & Bob Gillespie playing Terry Middleton & John Findlay and Frank McCarron & Alan Cruickshank playing Gregor Angus & Callum Mitchell. The D F Leslie scratch matchplay competition sees Neil Irvine in the final awaiting the outcome of the Craig Irvine/Paul Lindeman semi final match.
