RHONA CROWNED WOMANS CHAMP

BANCHORY Stonehaven AC's Rhona Auckland recorded her best performance to date taking the Under 17 Women's title at the Stewart's Scottish National Cross Country championships in Falkirk at the weekend.

There was a big field of runners on the 4.8km course which resulted in some jostling at the start and Rhona was tripped in the melee, but the Torphins girl bounced back on her feet to recover well and ran a steady race moving up the field of under 20 and under 17 athletes to finish in 7th place overall and 1st under17 by a big margin of 14 seconds. This was a great win for Rhona especially after her early fall and this typifies her steely determination.

BSAC was also represented by Ewan McMillan who finished well up the field in the Under 13 boys race, Rachel Smith, Daniel Rees and Eve Sealy.

Meanwhile Kathryn Christie of BSAC was competing for Scottish Schools in the Celtic Indoor Cup for under 16s in Cardiff. Kathryn finished in second place to the Irish girl in the 200m in a season's best of 26.48s. Kathryn who captained the girl's team then ran the final leg of the 200m relay in a split time of 25.6s to take her team home in second place. Overall the combined boys and girls Scottish team finished in third place behind Ireland and Wales.
