With 10 minutes to go to half-time, the Mackie forwards slowly started to impose themselves. A good passage of play took the ball up to about 10 yards short of the Caithness goal line.
From the resulting ruck Ewan Johnstone, making a welcome return to the senior squad was held up four yards short of the line. Steve Akoula pounced and although tackled twice managed to spin out of both to crash over the line for a try that Levack converted from the touchline 7-3.
Caithness had barely recovered, when from the kick off Mackie’s backs made great ground to 15 yards from the Caithness posts.
A penalty and a certain three points were awarded but Rory Mellis had other ideas. He took a quick tap and scampered left drawing the defence. He then passed to Akoula who dummied his opposite number and dived over the line for another try, again converted by Levack.
The second half saw no more scoring and Mackie marked their last home game with a win which consolidates fourth place.
