South score ten v Grammar

Aberdeen Grammar 4ths 3

Aberdeenshire South HC 10

Following last week’s cancellation of the game against Gordonians 5ths it was essential to get a result against Aberdeen Grammar 4ths.

Everything started smoothly with three goals in the first 15 minutes through Gavin McNab (4 & 13 minutes) and Ivo Verstralen (7 minutes) but again some weak defence saw a tap in at the back post by the Grammar striker.

Thoughts went back to the previous game where ASHC took a three goal lead against Aberdeen Tigers only to lose 3-5 but following a period of uncertainty three goals in 26 mins, a Robbie Wallis penalty corner, a 32 minute tap in by John Ritchie and a further penalty corner goal by Gavin McNab saw a comfortable half time lead of 6-1 to ASHC.

Aberdeen Grammar changed their formation for the second half and ASHC found it hard going to break them down and not until the 50th minute did they again penetrate the Grammar defence.

They then had a four minute spell where three goals were scored from Ivo Verstralen (57), Iain Sawers (59) and Gavin McNab (61) which was his fifth and the team’s tenth goal of the game.

Grammar did find the net twice in the 51st and 63rd minutes but never looked like making a total comeback.

Further chances fell to the two 13 year olds in the team Connor Munroe and Ben McKellar but they could not find the break through for their first senior goal.

This was a good performance which shows the team are slowly starting to get into gear.

the next game for ASHC is on Saturday at Portlethen against Aberdeen HC.
