Treasurer, Bill Inglis, welcomed a good entry of 32 to Johnshaven Bowling Club’s open seven ends singles competition on Sunday.
Early on in proceedings, a sudden torrential downpour had all hands to the hoover. However, after some keen competition, the latter stages were reached without too much of a delay and, although Tracy McGillvary played well in the first of the semi-finals, Ernie Auld, Bervie BC proved just too good for her and went through to the final without losing a shot.
Husband Steve did better in his semi though, edging out Eck O’Brien of the host club in a close encounter, 7-5. Then, after losing a single at the first end in the final, a stunning burst of 2-2-3 put Steve comfortably ahead, 7-1.
Ernie recovered with a run of 1-1-2 but it was Steve McGillvary who finished the day a deserved winner of the 2012 open seven ends by 7 shots to 5.
The club benefited by approximately £250 from the event and Bill thanked all who had made it such a success, especially the ladies who had provided such an excellent spread and the visitors who had supported the competition so well.
