Over 350 children from Aberdeenshire will take part in The Bairns Summer Games 2011, which replaces the Mini Highland Games events that have been held over the past few years for the out of school care groups across Aberdeenshire.
The format and activity mix has changed this year to try and ensure more children are being kept active during the events.
The games will be held as follows: Wednesday, July 27, groups in the south will have their day at Portlethen Academy.
Wednesday, August 3, groups in the north will take part in their event at Mintlaw Academy
Children will take part in a range of activities including: obstacle run, dodge ball, dress up relay, turbo javelin, hurl the haggis, basket ball hoops, throw the wellie, standing long jump, beat the goalie, ladder challenge, three legged race and rounders.
There will also be a cross country run before lunch and then in the afternoon there will be a number of team activities to include: relay, tug of war, fruit and spoon race, sack race, and up and over before a prize giving ceremony.
the organisers will also be able to run the day even if it is raining as each venue had indoor facilities.
