Valuable point gained

Hazlehead United 3

Johnshaven 3

Johnshaven, third in Division One East, took on second placed Hazlehead back on November 24, in a game where a draw was the fairest result.

Hazlehead came out of the traps quickest and only a great save from Stephen prevented the away team conceding an early goal after a striker beat the offside trap.

In the 6th minute Johnshaven had a chance to take the lead themselves after an excellent through ball from Rausch found Hood, but as the striker got closer to the goal his angle was narrowed by a defender and he could only shoot wide.

In the 19th minute a pass from Cruikshank found Hood in acres of space, but his cut back was just behind Smith who had the goal at his mercy.

In the 25th minute a free kick from Robert Tringham was met by Ross Blease, but the midfielder could only head wide.

A couple of minutes later keeper Stephen was again called upon to pull out a wonder save when after a mix up at the back a Hazlehead winger found himself in on goal, but the keeper dived acrobatically and saved the ball with his trailing foot.

On the stroke of half time Johnshaven took the lead when Beedie played a through ball to Lee Hood who ran in on goal and made no mistake with the finish.

Johnshaven nearly doubled their lead when a 25 yard shot from Hood was well saved by the home keeper.

Hazlehead equalised when a cross was powerfully headed home by their striker.

On 70 minutes the same player ran in on the Johnshaven goal and after his shot was saved by Stephen, his strike partner was first to react to smash home the rebound.

In the 75th minute a free kick from Rausch was met by the head of Ross Blease who managed to steer the ball past the keeper and into the empty net.

Hazlehead looked to have scored the winning goal in the 80th minute after a mix up at the back resulted in a midfielder scoring.

Johnshaven battled well though and MacLaren beat a man and squared the ball to Scott Beedie who hit a thunderous shot from outside the box that beat the goalkeeper and sent the away touchline into raptures.

Johnshaven did have a chance at the death to win it after a Ross Blease header was cleared off the line, but with both teams fighting for promotion and the away team missing several players through injuries and work commitments, it will hopefully go on to be shown as a big point gained.
