Win clinches promotion for Johnshaven

Johnshaven travelled to Inverurie on May 23 for their final game of the season and secured a 1-0 victory over Burghmuir which gave them third spot in the league and promotion back to Division One.

The game was played in windy conditions so bad that at one point in the first half the Johnshaven goal was blown over and luckily for their keeper it fell backwards away from him. After a brief stoppage to secure the goal to the ground the game continued.

Johnshaven got off to a great start with a goal in the opening minute. A defender tried to pass the ball back to his goalkeeper and Scott Beedie intercepted the pass, rounded the keeper and planted the ball into the net.

In Johnshaven’s next attack Walger found Scott Beedie whose shot was saved by the Burghmuir keeper.

in eight minutes a powerful shot from outside the box by Burghmuir clipped the top of the Johnshaven crossbar.

In the 20th minute Johnshaven had two corners in quick succession. From the first a shot from Scott Beedie was deflected over the bar by a Burghmuir defender. From the second a header from Beedie bounced off a Burghmuir player back to the keeper.

In the 25th minute a Leon Dundas shot flew just past the post.

In the 39th minute Scott Beedie curled the ball round the keeper but his effort hit the side netting.

just on the half-time whistle Dundas had a shot pushed round the post by the Burghmuir keeper. The resulting corner found the head of Dundas but he put the ball just wide.

In the opening minutes of the second half Slavin shot went narrowly past the post.

In the 51st minute a Ross Blease free-kick was heading for the top corner of the net until the keeper leapt to push the ball round the post.

In Johnshaven’s next attack a Welsh shot was parried by the Burghmuir keeper.

On the hour mark a Burghmuir cross deflected off a Johnshaven defender, but the ball hit the post and stayed out.

A minute later a Steven Smith shot went just over the bar.

In the 64th minute a shot from Burghmuir hit the outside of the post and went behind.

Ten minutes later Walger released Daryl Smith who fired in a low cross but no one was on hand to tap home.

In the 87th minute Slavin went on a solo run and shot across the goalmouth but the ball went just wide.

Burghmuir now face a play off to see if they can still gain promotion.
