Youngsters cock-a-hoop in basketball tournament

Last weekend saw the last tournament weekend of the Grampian Regional Development League.

The RDL’s are held at The International School, Aberdeen and has teams play at four age groups; under 12, 14, 16 and 18.

The basketball team from Arduthie Primary School took part in the under 12 girls RDL, whilst three teams from Portlethen Community Basketball Club took part in the under 12 boys RDL.

It was a close finish for the under 12 boys league title, with Portlethen Panthers boys finishing only one point behind Alford.

The Arduthie girls also finished second in their league to a very strong Fraserburgh Storm team. However, both teams will have another opportunity for a win when they take part in the Grampian Finals Day, which is being held at the Beach Leisure Centre in Aberdeen on Saturday March 23.

Special mention must go to Matthew Blackwood (Panthers) and Maisie James (Arduthie) who were both selected as “All-Star 5” players in their respective age group.

Matthew has also been selected for the Scotland Under 12 boys Development Squad and will travel to Andorra in May.
