The Great Big Dance show beckons for two local groups

Two local dance groups have been selected to appear in The Great Big Dance Show an annual showcase of the best dance from Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire.

Portlethen dance school Dance Dimensions and Aberdeenshire dance school Evolution, who hold classes in Newtonhill, have both been selected, following auditions, to feature in The Great Big Dance Show at His Majesty’s Theatre, Aberdeen on Saturday October 11 at 7.30pm.

Dance Dimension is based at Bourtree Hall in Portlethen. Teaching Tap, Ballet and Modern Dance from the ages 2 to 20 years

Evolution is based in Aberdeenshire runs classes in Inverurie, Garioch Sports Centre and Newtonhill, Bettridge Centre. The school offers RAD Ballet, ISTD Modern, ISTD Tap, SDTA Highland, Jazz, Contemporary, Hip Hop, Musical Theatre, Adult Tap & Jazz, from pre-school age to Adult classes.

The Great Big Dance Show is part of the DanceLive festival, Aberdeen’s festival of contemporary dance featuring a wealth of Scottish and International talent.

Festival producer Jenny Philips said: “The festival is a celebration of dance, an opportunity to see inspiring and fun performances, to meet the dancers and choreographers, take a class and enjoy the fantastic atmosphere.”

DanceLive 2014, Aberdeen’s 9th festival of contemporary dance, runs from 7-28 October across the city.
