Archie Fisher, broadcaster and also one of the architects of the folk revival in Scotland, is no stranger to Stonehaven.
The former long-term presenter of Radio Scotland’s Travelling Folk programme has played many times in the town and was the headline act at the Folk Club’s 25th birthday back in 2012.
That was a great night but his latest return on March 21 showed that, despite being in his 75th year, his silky smooth voice and entertaining show is better than ever. The concert sold out well in advance with the audience travelling from all over Aberdeenshire and from as far south as Carnoustie.
It was a warm and friendly show with Archie interacting with the audience throughout, several of whom had brought in old vinyl albums for him to sign.
Everyone went home happy and no doubt looking forward to his next visit. His energy and enthusiasm for his work was obvious but, with retirement planned in the next few years, his next visit, sadly, may be his last.
There is frequently excellent live music on Friday nights at the community centre and this one was certainly one of the best!
Irish troubadour Anthony John Clarke visits tomorrow (Friday) at 8.30pm. All welcome! Entry on the door, Lower Community Centre, Bath Street.
