Did you catch the ‘Wildman of Caledonia’ in the Market Square last Friday? Rumours the Wildman was spotted turned out to be true.

If you were in Stonehaven’s Market Square between 1.30 and 2.30pm you would have caught a glimpse of an expedition led by revered anthropologist, Dr. Ina Fossi, and funded by renowned entrepreneur, Eugene J. Thickelthwaite, to catch the Wildman.

‘The Wildman of Caledonia’ was a humorous and energetic performance which took place on the streets around Stonehaven and began with the arrival of an anthropologist in search of the fabled Wildman and ended with various acrobatic and slapstick chases, with the quarry escaping from the clutches of an evil impresario and his dimwitted sidekicks.

The performance was by Mischief La-Bas - an interactive, outdoor performance company based in Glasgow - who have been providing street theatre to villages, towns and cities across Scotland for over 20 years.

Their new performance, ‘The Wildman of Caledonia,’ is being supported by Creative Scotland and will appear in towns throughout the country.

Passers-by stopped and watched the performance, with many confused but enthralled with what was unfolding.
