In the run up to WWF’s Earth Hour – taking place on Saturday March 25 2017 - WWF and People’s Postcode Lottery have launched a nationwide search to find those unsung heroes who are making a real difference for our planet. Anyone can nominate themselves or others for the award in three categories – Community hero, Workplace hero and Lifestyle hero.

People in Stonehaven and surrounding areas are being encouraged to nominate themselves or others for the Earth Hour Heroes competition. The initiative is searching for individuals who deserve recognition for going the extra mile to help the environment and inspire others - whether at home, in the community or in the workplace.

Mandy Carter, spokesperson for WWF Scotland, said: “Every year Earth Hour puts the spotlight on people around the world coming together and taking actions to protect our brilliant planet from challenges like climate change. Earth Hour reminds us that, together, we have the power to make change happen and Earth Hour Heroes are people who are making a difference for the planet in their own way. We’re delighted to be teaming up with People’s Postcode Lottery to recognise these unsung environmental heroes and inspire others to live more sustainably too.”

Clara Govier, Head of Charities for People’s Postcode Lottery said: “We are delighted to be launching the Earth Hour Heroes competition with WWF-UK to help celebrate those individuals achieving positive change for the environment. Whether it’s someone in your local community or a colleague at work who’s inspired you with their activities, or even your own environmental actions, we can’t wait to hear your stories and shine a light on the winners.”
