A Stonehaven fish and chip restaurant took their famous food on the road and treated a care home as part of National Fish & Chips Day.

The Bay on the Road surprised purpose-built care home, Mowat Court, with their award-winning fish and chips for their lunch on Friday, June 3.

The Bay’s owner, Calum Richardson, worked alongside Gordon - Scotland’s sales manager for KFE Ltd - to celebrate the national day for the dish and give back to those most in need in the Stonehaven community.

Mr Richardson said: “I like to share The Bay’s success with the people of Stonehaven as much as possible.

“Whether that’s through fundraising, attending or hosting events, it fills me with pride to be able to give back to my local community.”

Mowat Court is a purpose-built care home that offers personalised nursing care for older people, including individuals who are living with Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia and is located near Stonehaven’s community hospital and the Stonehaven Bay.

Calum added: “I decided to surprise the residents of Mowat Court with a spot of The Bay’s signature dishes for lunch, and I’m so pleased I did.

“They were so welcoming and appreciative; it really was a special afternoon.

“The cherry on the top came after I uploaded photos from the day onto Facebook and I heard from a good friend of mine in Australia as his dad lives at Mowart Court.

“My friend hadn’t seen his dad for a long time but through putting photos on Facebook following the event he got the opportunity to see a photo of him again - it was a very touching moment.”

Calum said that National Fish & Chips Day has been a special moment since the restaurant’s inception.

“Since opening The Bay in 2006, National Fish & Chips Day has always been a great day to build up hype around our industry and I always love doing something special for it.

“This year, I wanted to make the most of our new mobile kitchen, which was launched in 2015.”
