The Bay support Friends of the Pool

A local group is turning to local businesses to help them meet the costs involved in running the Stonehaven Open Air Swimming Pool.

With significant work already carried out to maintain, enhance and promote the pool, the Friends of the Pool are appealing to local businesses for support.

First to sign up was Calum Richardson, owner of the award-winning The Bay Fish & Chips.

“The Bay has become our season-long supporter,” said Friends’ chairman Pete Hill. “We are delighted to offer significant promotional opportunities in return, both at the Pool and online.”

The Bay’s donation, together with contributions from other local businesses, will go towards covering the cost of purchasing the vital materials, equipment and tools the Friends need to ensure that the Pool looks its best, not only for the opening on May 28, but all summer long.

Calum Richardson added: “The Pool is an amazing asset for Stonehaven, attracting many visitors to the town each summer.

“It brings in families, couples, singles and serious swimmers who all spend time and money in the town’s shops, eateries and take-aways, including, of course, The Bay.

“I’m therefore delighted to support the Friends’ voluntary work by contributing The Bay’s 5p bag charges to help with the cost of keeping the Pool looking its best and would encourage other local businesses to join me.”

The Friends of Stonehaven Open Air Swimming Pool is a charity, originally formed by the local community to ensure the future of the Open Air Pool when it was threatened with closure in the 1990s.

They now work in partnership with Aberdeenshire Council which operates the Pool, while the Friends maintain, enhance and promote the Pool.

Stonehaven Open Air Pool is a unique Olympic-size (50m) pool with clean, filtered seaswater heated to 29 degrees Celsius, set within an Art Deco, listed building.

It is open for children of all ages, quiet sessions for adults and midnight swims in high season.
