Young aspiring actors – as well as professionals – are to get the chance to land a fairytale role in a Christmas show at Aberdeen’s Lemon Tree Studio this winter.
Aberdeen Performing Arts (APA) and Scottish Youth Theatre (SYT) are to stage a month-long production of Jack and the Magic Beans for young theatre-goers and are auditioning on Friday (September 16) for the cast.
The show continues SYT’s work in developing new and exciting interactive performances for audiences aged three-to-seven and all the family, and previous productions include last year’s highly-successful show of The Puddock and the Princess, also at The Lemon Tree.
The new show requires a small cast and needs performers who are disciplined, skilled and interested in performing to a family audience - the most demanding yet rewarding of audiences.
The auditions for young actors aged 16-25 - as well as a professional -available from November 14 until Christmas Eve, will be held at His Majesty’s Theatre on Friday and will take the form of a practical workshop, where they will be asked to prepare a nursery rhyme or song to teach the rest of the group.
The successful performers will be given a weekly training allowance and the opportunity to work with a professional director, designer and performer and be part of full-scale production.
The auditions will be held from 1.30 pm to 3.30 pm for professional actors and from 4 pm onwards for 16 to 25 year olds.
For the individual interviews, the director will meet with each candidate to discuss the project and they will be asked to prepare a two-to-three minute monologue retelling their favourite story as a child.
The professional auditions will last approximately twenty minutes each, and candidates are asked to prepare a child-friendly song, and act out a two-to-three minute story aimed at the target audience.
To book an audition place, candidates must email associate director Fraser MacLeod at firstname.lastname@example.org
